Frequently Asked Questions

Why ABChiropractic Family & Wellness?

Carefully thought out, personalized treatments. We focus on treating and correcting the cause of your symptoms (pain, numbness, headaches, etc.).

What's the difference between our care and that of traditional chiropractors?

Others only treat the symptom(s), a temporary fix. Corrective care is much different. Dr. Awwad focuses on fixing the problem(s) in the spine once and for all, therefore removing your symptom(s) and greatly decreasing the likelihood of the problem coming back. The protocol for corrective care is intense, but very effective, gentle, safe, and the most cost-effective program we offer.

What is the "popping" sound that occurs with a chiropractic adjustment?

It is the same sound if you were to 'pop' your knuckles. It is caused by a release of pressure from the joint. An example; the sound you get when opening a can of soda.

Will the adjustment hurt?

Typically, there is no pain involved with the adjustment, unless the patient is in extreme pain. Most of the time, people actually feel a sense of relief and are more relaxed after the adjustment because the pressure is removed from the nerve.

How long will it take till I feel better?

It depends on many factors such as how long you've had the injury/problem, the severity of the problem, your age, over-all health, work and personal habits. Typically though, relief will be felt within 1-3 treatment sessions.

Can I afford going to the chiropractor if I do not have insurance?

Yes. Our goal at ABChiropractic Family & Wellness is to not deny anybody of the proper treatment. We have very cost-effective programs, and even monthly payment programs at 0% interest.

If I've been in a car accident, but I do not have any discomfort or pain, do I still need to get checked by a chiropractor?

Yes. It is extremely important to get checked by a chiropractor. Research shows that a car accident, or fender bender as little as 5-10mph can cause shifting in the spine, which will eventually cause discomfort and pain. An x-ray is the best way of identifying shifts in the spine, especially if there is no stiffness or pain.

How does chiropractic care help mothers-to-be?

Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy helps maintain balance, development, and flexibility for the mother. Many report that they experience less morning sickness. Pregnant women who get adjusted report shorter, less traumatic, and more pleasant deliveries when they receive chiropractic care.

What is a subluxation?

In simplest terms, a subluxation is when one or more of the bones of your spine move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.

What causes subluxations?

Accidents, slips, falls, poor posture, emotional and physical stress, the natural birthing process, and bad sleeping habits can cause subluxations.

How do subluxations affect you?

Your nervous system controls and coordinates ALL the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly.

What percentage of the body perceives pain?

Only 10% of the body perceives pain, therefore it is important to get routine chiropractic checkups. You do not have to have pain to benefit from chiropractic care.

Should kids receive chiropractic care?

YES! The normal birthing process puts tremendous stress on a child's spine causing misalignments. Those misalignments can cause colic, ear infections, bedwetting, and other aches and pains which can lead to the chronic and hard to correct misalignments seen in adults.

Is it true that once you start getting chiropractic treatments, you can't stop?

It depends on what type of relief you are looking for. If you are looking for pain relief, then no. Pain relief is achieved within the first few days to first few weeks of treatments. If you are looking to correct the problem and also prevent it from coming back, then more treatment is required.
